Summary: Operates the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology preparation
laboratory within the MCZ\'s new Paleontology Preparation Facility.
Provides preparation/conservation for the faculty curator and department
more broadly. Supervises the training of students in lab/field
techniques. Plans field expeditions, including permits and organization
of field equipment. Authorizes purchases of VP laboratory supplies,
especially those necessary to develop new techniques of preparation.
Basic
Qualifications: -BA/BSc or equivalent in geology with emphasis on
vertebrate paleontology. -Minimum of 3 years of experience in vertebrate
paleontology preparation. -Experience using manual and mechanical
fossil preparation techniques. -Experience molding, casting,
restoration, and conservation of fossils. -Experience conducting field
work.
Additional Qualifications: -MSc in a related discipline.
-5+ years of experience in vertebrate paleontology preparation.
-Experience organizing the logistics of field expeditions, including
permits and mapping. -Familiarity with x-ray/CT technology. -Experience
presenting at local and/or national conferences. -Good organizational
skills and ability to handle a variety of administrative duties. -Member
of a scientific society.
