Job Title: Scientific Assistant (Paleontology)
The Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History
is seeking 1 full-time (35 hours per week) Scientific Assistant in the
Invertebrate Paleontology preparation lab.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The responsibilities and duties of the position include preparation and
restoration of invertebrate fossils, including detailed microscope-based
preparation using a full range of mechanical and chemical methods;
creating molds and casts; polished and thin section preparation; and
digital preparation, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and
computerized-tomography (CT) image processing. Will also be responsible
for general lab operations, including equipment and supply maintenance;
provide research support, including data collection and management;
interact with and support students and visiting scientists as
appropriate; and be responsible for other divisional tasks as assigned.
May have opportunities to participate in fieldwork.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and some professional experience in specimen
preparation required. Demonstrated high level of professional skill,
innovation, and cooperativeness. Outstanding manual dexterity and
hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and patience. Knowledge of
invertebrate fossils desired. Good organizational skills and ability to
work independently.
