This
position provides technical, curatorial and limited administrative
support to the Curator in the performance of research and educational
activities in a collection center and to the Collection Managers in the
care and maintenance of one or more research collection centers. Adheres
to all institutional, divisional and section guidelines in the
management of the Museum’s collections.
Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Participates in curation and collection management activities
including identifying, classifying, preparing and preserving objects and
specimens for research, exhibition and education. May participate in
fieldwork. Contributes to conservation of objects as it relates to
storage and/or display. Exercises independent judgment in the
classification of artifacts and specimens under the general direction of
a Curator, Director or Collections Managers.
Maintains collection records and supplies data for research projects and
reports. Uses computerized databases and digital technology to document
information on collections and their locations. Catalogues
specimens/objects and localities as necessary for research and
exhibitions. Assists visiting scientists by providing access to the
collections as directed by the Curator, Director or Collections Manager.
Assists in processing loan requests.
Assist in the routine monitoring and maintenance of the collections work
space, including any laboratory areas, and collection objects and
specimens.
Participates in the Museum’s Public Program activities, including but
not limited to, assisting with exhibitions, presentation of public
lectures, instruction of Museum classes and participating in educational
programs.
Provides operational coordination to staff, volunteers, work study students, interns, and contractors as needed.
Maintains working space, collection tools, equipment and supplies.
Conducts collection and lab tours as needed.
