PALEOBIOLOGY DATABASE INTENSIVE SUMMER COURSE IN ANALYTICAL PALEOBIOLOGY
The Paleobiology Database (http://paleodb.org) is sponsoring an
intensive course in analytical paleobiology that will be held at the
National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis at the
University of California, Santa Barbara. The course will take place
between Tuesday, June 27th and Monday, July 24th 2006.
Topics will include community paleoecology, quantitative
biostratigraphy, diversity curves, speciation and extinction,
morphometrics, and phylogenetics. Both simulation modelling and data
analysis methods will be explored. The course will combine lectures
and labs, and students will be given hands-on instruction in
programming and the use of analytical software, with an emphasis on
R. In addition to the course coordinator, each week a new instructor
will be present. Participating instructors are expected to include
John Alroy, Michael Foote, Nigel Hughes, Mark Patzkowsky, Pete
Wagner, and Mark Webster.
There is no fee for registration, and students will be housed for
free in apartments on the UCSB campus. Students are urged to apply
for travel funds from their home institutions. If such funds are not
available, all travel expenses beyond the first $400 will be
reimbursed completely, regardless of the country of origin. Students
are responsible for meal expenses. Additional funding for students
from outside of the United States, Canada, and Western Europe may be
provided. There are no other charges of any kind, and no other major
expenses are likely.
Participating students should be in the early stages of their own
research in paleontology. They should have a background in basic
statistics, and preferably also programming. The course is open to
all students, but first or second year graduate students are
particularly encouraged to apply, as are international students.
Applications from professionals who have completed their studies will
be considered, but strong preference will be given to students.
Applications should be submitted in PDF form to John Alroy
(alroy@nceas.ucsb.edu) no later than March 1st. Applications should
consist of a one page statement, plus a recommendation letter written
by the student's academic advisor and e-mailed separately. No form

Third International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs, babies, and development biology
Teniendo en cuenta que no hay página web del THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON DINOSAUR EGGS, BABIES, AND DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY. Ponemos en el Weblog la segunda y tercera circular a celebrar el 13 al 15 de Abril del 2006 en el Museo Carmen Funes. Plaza Huincult, Neuquén, Patagonia, Argentina.
SECOND CIRCULAR
Scope— During recent years our knowledge of dinosaur eggs and babies has been greatly advanced through a number of worldwide discoveries. A wealth of new information has been gathered from these investigations and a core of researchers has gathered on two prior occasions (Isona, Spain and Montpellier, France) to exchange these new ideas. These past meetings have attracted a broad international participation and have often led to fruitful collaborations. The 3rd International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs, Babies, and Developmental Biology is a follow-up to these two international meetings.
The 3rd International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs, Babies, and Developmental Biology provides opportunities for expanding our approach to other research areas of developmental biology, while at the same time maintaining our connection with the scientific problems of dinosaur eggs and embryos. Thus, in addition to papers on what has been the core of the previous meetings on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies—the morphology, taphonomy, taxonomy, and systematics of eggs, nest, and embryos—we invite participants to deliver papers on reproductive behavior and physiology, life history, ontogenetic development, growth rates and paleohistology, and sexual dimorphism, and to include birds (extant dinosaurs) within their focus of research.
Program—The 3rd International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs, Babies, and Developmental Biology will take place at the Museo Carmen Funes (Plaza Huincul, Argentina) from April 13th to April 15th, 2006.
The Symposium will consist of three days of presentations (plenary speakers, regular platform presentations, and posters). These presentations will be published (after peer-review process) in a special volume (publisher to be determined but Ameghiniana is a likely option).
Pre and post-meeting field excursions are planned to the main fossil localities of Neuquén Basin, including a one-day excursion to the Auca Mahuevo nesting site (April 16th). A Symposium banquet (April 15th) will be held at the closure of the meeting.
THIRD CIRCULAR
As we approach the time of the Third International Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs, Babies, and Developmental Biology, we are pleased to inform that more than 30 professionals from different countries in North America, Europe, and South America have already registered. Below we update you with some additional information.
Abstract—The deadline for abstract submission is February 1, 2006. Please submit your abstract as an attached MS Word document to the meeting’s email address (eggs_embryos06@copelnet.com.ar). It would helpful if you also send a copy of your abstract to the organizers: chiappe@nhm.org and coriarod@copelnet.com.ar
Please format the abstract according to the following guidelines:
TITLE CENTERED AND IN UPPER CASE
INITIALS AND LAST NAME OF AUTHORS IN UPPER CASE AND CENTERED – separate names by an “and” if only two authors, or a “comma” if more than two (e.g., R. A. CORIA and L. M. CHIAPPE; R. A. CORIA, L. M. CHIAPPE, and T. REX)

Nueva Revista de los Cuaternaristas
De Los Cuadernos de Cazarabet
El Centro de Estudios Espeleológicos Turolenses editará una revista de carácter científico y divulgativo. La revista se llamará Cija de Teruel y su primer número saldrá el próximo mes de abril o mayo. El vicepresidente del Centro de Estudios Espeleológicos Turolenses y del club Farallón de Montalbán, Juan Carlos Gordillo, anunció que una de las actividades en la que está trabajando el centro es la edición de una revista científica y divulgativa que tendrá carácter anual. Juan Carlos Gordillo manifestó que la revista saldrá a la luz pública en el mes de abril o lo más tardar en mayo y tendrá 32 páginas. Gordillo explicó que la revista cuenta con un equipo asesor de arqueólogos, paleontólogos, geólogos e historiadores que darán el carácter científico. Asimismo, avanzó que el primer número de Cija de Teruel tendrá una sección dedicada al espeleo socorrismo, otra a la arqueología urbana, y otra, entre otras, al espelo buceo. El coste económico de la edición de Cija de Teruel alcanzará los 3.000 euros. Para su financiación el CEET ha pedido ayuda económica a diversas Instituciones tanto públicas como privadas. Concurso de Investigacion Museo Mas de las Matas
XI CONCURSO DE AYUDAS A LA INVESTIGACIÓN MUSEO DE MAS DE LAS MATAS
I. Se convocan el XI Concurso de Ayudas a la Investigación - 2006, con una dotación de 1.000 Euros cada una, para la realización de trabajos de investigación científica, histórica o sociológica, referentes al entorno geográfico enmarcado en los municipios donde desarrolla su actividad el Museo de Mas de las Matas.
II Las solicitudes deberán remitirse por duplicado a la Secretaría del Grupo de Estudios Masinos (c/ La Costera, 11 - 44564 Mas de las Matas), conteniendo la siguiente documentación:
1.- Identidad de autor o autores, con indicación de su situación académica en su caso.
2.- Curriculum vitae.
3.- Proyecto de trabajo a realizar, valorando la importancia del mismo, y una aproximación de su extensión.
4.- Presupuesto detallado de la investigación.
5.- Aval del director de un Departamento Universitario, de una Institución Científica o de una persona de relevancia dentro del
ámbito de la investigación propuesta.
6.- Dirección postal, correo electrónico y teléfono de contacto del investigador o grupo de investigadores.
III El plazo de admisión de solicitudes finalizará el día 1 de mayo de 2006.
IV Los proyectos de trabajo aspirantes a las Ayudas deberán ser originales o inéditos.
Para juzgar los proyectos presentados, se establecerá un Tribunal designado libremente por el Grupo de Estudios Masinos. Su fallo será inapelable. Si ninguno de los trabajos presentados reuniera, a su juicio, la calidad suficiente, las Ayudas podrán declararse desiertas.
La decisión del Tribunal se comunicará personalmente a todos los participantes. Una de las copias de los proyectos no seleccionados quedará en poder del Grupo de Estudios Masinos para ser incorporado a su Archivo. La otra será devuelta a los solicitantes.
V Las Ayudas se harán efectivas en el momento de hacer entrega del trabajo y previa aprobación del Tribunal que designe el Grupo de Estudios Masinos.
Las investigaciones seleccionadas deberán finalizarse en el plazo de un año a partir de la fecha de la concesión de la Ayuda. Si no se cumple este plazo, se dará por cancelada automáticamente.
La propiedad de los trabajos seleccionados corresponderá al Grupo de Estudios Masinos, que podrá publicarlos en el boletín MAS DE LAS MATAS.
En todas las publicaciones subvencionadas relacionadas con la investigación deberá figurar una mención explícita a la Ayuda concedida por el Grupo de Estudios Masinos.
