Fulltime position: Education Programs Manager at PRI's Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY. Position begins February 2008.

Description: Museum of the Earth (MotE) at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) seeks an individual to develop, coordinate, and implement educational programming for school groups, community groups, and public visitors to Museum of the Earth. MotE educational programming makes accessible the history of life on Earth, the processes by which the Earth system works, and the science by which we understand it. Main job responsibilities include booking and tracking information regarding education programs, delivering programs and leading tours of the Museum, developing interdisciplinary programming in science and art, and helping reach underserved urban and rural audiences. Additional duties also include assisting with teacher development workshops, maintaining educational materials and teaching collection of specimens, answering education correspondence, and representing PRI at public events.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree in an area of Earth system science, museum education, museum studies or related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years experience in museum education or similar informal education venue preferred. The ideal candidate has a passion for Earth sciences and informal education, excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience working with diverse audiences. Candidates should be a dynamic instructor, with excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable with hands-on inquiry based education.
