1) Head of the Department of Palaeobiology, Swedish Museum of Natural History
The Department of Palaeobiology was formed in March 2013 after the merger of the former departments of Palaeobotany and Palaeozoology. The department has extensive and valuable scientific collections in all areas of palaeontology and conducts world leading research in several fields, with emphasis on the origin and development of Cenozoic vertebrates, Palaeozoic invertebrates and seed-plants. Approximately twenty-five people work in the department. We are seeking a dynamic academic leader with experience in collections-based palaeobiology. The candidate has the ability to develop the department´s strengths in world-class, innovative research, collections management, and promotion of palaeontology to the broader public.
Duties
The position involves comprehensive planning and management, including personnel, budgetary and work environment responsibilities. Duties also include participation in management and development of the research sector within the museum, including participation in the steering committee, and implementing actions in priority areas of the museum´s operations. Emphasis will be given to consolidating and developing the new department´s operations. In addition to the managerial responsibilities, the position also provides opportunities within designated work time for the candidate´s own original research or other duties within palaeobiology.
Qualifications
You preferably have previous experience of staff and managerial duties. You must have extensive experience in collections-based work in palaeobiology. You preferably have a PhD in palaeobiology and evidence of scientific productivity at a high international level. Documented ability to obtain external research funding is meritorious, as is experience in conservation and public promotion of fossil collections of a diverse nature. You must be creative and dynamic and have good interpersonal skills. The ability to work in team is essential.
The Swedish Museum of Natural History can promote an employee to professor if she/he is found to have the required qualifications after an evaluation by external reviewers. The successful applicant may apply for such evaluation. The administrative language is Swedish and the candidate must have achieved

2. Any other documents that the applicant wishes to submit focusing on
administrative experience and broader contributions to the development of the
field.
3. References to previous work.
4. A statement outlining the applicant´s vision for the strategic development of
research and collections management in the department.
