Location: | London |
This is an opportunity for an early career researcher or collections specialist to take up an important role in a world-renowned institution with a unique scientific mission and public profile.
The successful applicant will join a large science group composed of approximately 300 scientists, in an institution that houses some of the largest, most significant scientific collections in the world. The Museum is also home to an internationally important natural history library, a suite of advanced analytical and imaging facilities, and offers the opportunity to communicate science to huge national and international audiences.
Applications are open to candidates in the field of vertebrate palaeontology, with particular expertise in Mesozoic reptiles. Embedded within the Vertebrates and Anthropology Division of the Department of Earth Sciences, the Researcher will engage in collaborative and independent research projects on fossil reptiles, provide advice relating to product development for NHM Retail, participate in outreach activities organised by the NHM’s Public Engagement Group and Development team, and will share responsibility for curation of the Fossil Reptile Collections. Duties will be split approximately evenly between research, curation and outreach/corporate roles, but these proportions will vary slightly depending on individual project requirements.
This post will be line managed by Professor Paul Barrett (Individual Merit Researcher, Dinosaurs and Fossil Reptiles) and countersigned by the Principal Curator for Fossil Vertebrates and Anthropology (Dr Martha Richter). The Researcher will work alongside the other researchers and curators within the Division.
