The North Dakota Geological Survey announces an opening for a paleontologist. This newly created permanent position will be part of a three person team in our paleontology program. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research and producing reports and articles on the paleontology of the Williston Basin of North Dakota, assisting with curation of the State Fossil Collection, preparation of exhibits, and participating in fossil excavations and public fossil digs.
Applicants must have a masters degree in geology or related field with five years paleontological experience or a PhD. Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants familiar with the Mesozoic and Cenozoic stratigraphy and paleontology of the Great Plains.
The successful applicant will be hired as a Geologist III with a starting annual salary between $43,656 and $48,000 plus benefits, dependent upon the level of schooling and applicable experience.
