Position: Collections Database Manager, Paleontological Research Institution, Ithaca, NY
Term: June 2007 – June 2008 (1 Year Contract)
Description: PRI is in the third year of a National Science Foundation grant for the installation of a specimen database and for the computerization of its type specimen collection. The Collections Database Manager will take over this project. The position will include curation of the type specimen collection and entering specimens into the collections database. The position will also include specimen research, digital photography and digital image editing in Photoshop. The Collections Database Manager will also be responsible for interns and volunteers on this project.
Qualifications Required: A Bachelor’s degree in geology/biology/museums or a related field is required. The successful candidate will be an individual who takes initiative, is able to work and make decisions independently, has an understanding of museum/archival methods, and understands the mission of PRI and its Museum of the Earth. The candidate should possess strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills and strong typing skills. Experience with digital photography desired and Photoshop and Access a plus. The candidate must be willing to commit to the full one-year term.
